Jason first brought in his old Z5 SL to have a better understanding on our restoration and paintwork services. The Parlee was eventually left in the store after the discussion to proceed with the restoration as Jason was very steadfast in his decision.
The Parlee has had some scratches and was put to very good usage by Jason which he had very fond memories of and feel a bond with it.
The Z5 SL was originally a blackout paint design with the logo artwork on the bike pretty much camouflaged with the framebody colour.
We quizzed Jason on his rationale behind restoring the Z5 SL and his response was encouraging for cyclists who felt attached to their old bikes despite the array of new models coming out year after year.

Once I bought a new "modern" road cycle, I pondered what I would do with my 12 year old beloved Parlee Z5 SL. In the end, I decided to change it to something that my new cycle is not - light, mechanical, and not black. With this, I started my 6 month long project to customize my old Parlee.

While I was researching custom painters in Singapore and "weight weenie" components, I came across Cycle Project Store website. I really liked the projects that were on the website.
When I visited the store, I was blown away by the components that they were carrying. They had all the components that I was researching on the website! Having Cycle Project Store during the rebuild project was a great choice.
As for the color choices, I wanted it to look very different from how it looked before, which is black unpainted, and how my new bike looks, which is matte black. I personally like grey and orange so those were what I was interested in.
Sherwin also helped me pick the colors based on the pantone and that was very helpful. I was also given a choice to confirm the color and design choices prior to the custom paint job started. I am very happy how the color came out. It's somewhat retro but also very clean!
It was really great to see the rejuvenated Z5 SL being put together at the end with fresh components carefully selected by Jason. The whole bike felt like a brand new bike that deepens the strong attachment that Jason already had for it.
