Rarely do we see Richard Sachs' bikes coming through the door or yet,  even more so on the roads given their long waiting time upon ordering. This beautiful blue CX frameset was brought in by Eka to be assembled and we started to wonder if a Sach is easily obtainable since we have put together one not too long ago and a couple more here were sighted on the road.

We spoke to Eka about his journey towards the ownership of his Richard Sachs as well as discovering his reasons towards the selection of his components.
CPS : Hi Eka, thanks for bringing this lovely frameset to be assembled by us. What made you decide to get another bike?

Eka : This bike has always been on my wish list. When the opportunity finally presented itself, I did not hesitate for a second—I knew I had to go for it. Honestly, I feel like this could be my last bike (but who knows?)

CPS : Why Richard Sachs?

Eka : I have always been drawn to the classic geometry, especially frames with the horizontal top tube and skinny fork—they just look so clean and timeless to me. Early on, Richard Sachs’ bikes were among the first to catch my attention, and as I learned more about him, I became fascinated by his journey and dedication to traditional craftsmanship.
What really stands out is that all this by hands—he builds each frame entirely by himself, including the fork, something few builders do today. That level of passion and artistry is inspiring.

CPS : What is so special about this Richard Sachs?

Eka : This is an interesting story. I had been trying to get a Richard Sachs bike for almost a decade, knowing how rare and exclusive his frames are. I sent him an email once or twice a year, never expecting much, but hoping for a chance.

Then one day, completely out of the blue, he replied—and not just with an offer, but with something truly special. He offered me one of his personal bikes, the very one he raced in 2020 with the RSCX team. To own a bike that was built, ridden, and raced by Richard Sachs himself? That adds a whole new layer of meaning to this frame.

CPS :  How long did you wait for it?

Eka : The wait was several years before I got the exciting reply. But honestly, the anticipation only made it more rewarding.

CPS : What considerations did you have while shopping for the new bike?

Eka : Space is always the concern, so I always tell myself that the next bike will be my last. But let’s be real—who can truly stick to that? Haha!

CPS : Any reasons behind your component choices for the Sachs?

Eka : Initially, I wanted to keep the bike true to its original purpose as a cyclocross bike. But once I saw the frame in person, I could not bear the thought of putting it through rough conditions.

So, I went for a clean, minimalist build. 1x SRAM XPLR 12-speed drivetrain so no extra cable other than the brake, Darimo cockpit for that sleek and lightweight touch, and a Selle Italia Dallara’s SP-01 saddle. For brakes, I chose Paul Components cantilevers—they add a touch of classic functionality.

For the wheels, I wanted to keep that "cyclocross look" with 33mm Challenge Dune tires and paired them with Lightweight Meilenstein wheels. It’s a playful yet refined mix that feels perfect for this frame.

CPS : How has the ride experience been?

Eka : I may not have the technical vocabulary to describe what others called “stiffness,” but I can tell you this: I love riding this bike. It feels supple, forgiving, and resilient. Every ride is pure joy.

CPS : Was it worth choosing a traditionally made frame (lugged construction) over a modern carbon frame?

Eka : For me, it is less about whether one is objectively better than the other and more about the personal experience. I think every bike has its fun, and both carbon and steel offer something unique.

What I love about a (lugged) steel frame is how stable and comfortable it feels. It’s smooth and absorbs the vibrations in a way that makes every ride enjoyable. But I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse—just different.

CPS : Any advice to share for anyone looking for Richard Sachs?

Eka : I don’t think there’s a secret formula, at the end of the day, if you truly admire his work and are willing to wait, the experience is worth it. But like anything special, it requires the whole village of patience and passion, and a bit of luck.

CPS : Thank you Eka! A brilliant journey and congratulations again on your ownership of such a special bike!
