A Pumpkin-Orange Dream: Building a Soma Wolverine for Everyday Adventures

For Yush, this build began with a dream, not of speed or race results, but of long, rolling kilometres abroad. Although she already had a well-loved Giant commuter, the idea of cycling overseas planted a new seed: a travel-ready and adventure-friendly bike that could take her beyond the daily commute.

Her old Giant had served faithfully, but it came with limitations. The frame couldn’t clear anything wider than a 28c tyre, and it lacked proper mounting points for racks, all of which are dealbreakers for light touring adventures.

“I was looking at a new bike build to realise one of my dreams of cycling overseas,” she shared. “I love my old Giant, but I needed something that could handle commuting in Singapore and also a bit of light touring and adventure overseas.”

Why Soma, and Why the Wolverine?

Initially drawn to a couple other options from her search like the Surly Disc Trucker and the Primos Dame, she quickly realised the Disc Trucker in her size would require 26” wheels, which was an aesthetic compromise she wasn’t keen on.

The Soma Wolverine, meanwhile, kept things 700c and looked exactly the way she imagined her next bike would look.

Then there was the colour: Pumpkin Orange.

One glance, and she was sold.

On top of that, she had heard great things about Soma - their ride quality, their practicality and their reputation among riders who value utility without sacrificing character. The Wolverine brought together everything she wanted: tour-ready versatility, gravel friendliness and a geometry comfortable enough to ride all day.

What Makes This Wolverine Special?

"It definitely feels like it's *mine* after being able to pick out every part for it."

And that’s really the magic of a custom build, and the heart of what we do here. Every detail, from the cockpit to the tyres, was chosen around her preferences, her needs and budget. She envisioned a full silver component setup.

Polished, classic and clean. While a couple of compromises had to be made, the final look stayed true to her vision.

How Does It Ride?

"It's been amazing."

Going into the first ride, she expected the wider, knobbier tyres to feel sluggish compared to her old slicks. Instead, the Wolverine felt snappy and responsive in a way she wasn't expecting. And with the added volume under her, she found herself far more confident rolling over uneven ground and less-than-perfect surfaces.

And like any fresh build, it offered that unbeatable buttery-smooth sensation. Or as she described it, “No clicking, no quirky funky bits, and everything just runs so smooooooth."
