For years, Henry’s singlespeed quietly did what great bikes do best and it became invisible in the best possible way. It handled daily commutes, coffee runs, and everything in between without complaint. Eventually, though, even the most trusted machines reach a point where renewal feels less like an upgrade, and more like the natural next step.

The Crust Lightning Bolt was chosen as the foundation for that next chapter. A steel frameset with a calm confidence , something practical, unpretentious, and built for longevity. It offered exactly what was needed: a platform designed to be ridden daily, without hesitation.

From the outset, the goal was simple. Keep things honest, reliable, and purposeful. Paul Motolite brakes were selected for their proven power and feel, while a Phil Wood headset brings understated quality and long-term durability.

At the cockpit, a Velo Orange handlebar provides a natural, comfortable position, equally suited to city riding and longer days in the saddle.

The wheelset, built by Built Wheels, pairs HED Belgium C2 rims with Gran Compe II hubs ; a durable, serviceable combination backed by a White Industries freewheel, chosen for its long-standing reliability.

The drivetrain centres around a Sugino 75 crankset with Zen chainring which is a benchmark singlespeed setup known for its simplicity and precision.

A Brooks B17 saddle completes the build with timeless comfort that suits the steel frame perfectly. The result is a commuter built on restraint and function. From Thomson finishing kit to Phil Wood, White Industries, Paul Components, and Sugino, every component serves a clear purpose.

A simple, dependable machine — built to be ridden often, maintained easily, and appreciated over time.
