UShaun's Bastion Superleggera
For U-Shaun, the thrill of cycling has always been about discovery — the subtle nuances between machines, the small details that separate one ride from another.
Reviews and opinions can be entertaining, but as he puts it, “You never really know the difference until you own it and ride it.” That curiosity led him to his acquisition of a Bastion Superleggera.

A Love Affair with Titanium
There is something timeless about titanium — its strength, its shine, its quiet confidence. For U-Shaun, that allure borders on obsession. “There is something about high-polished titanium that I love, whether it’s on bicycles or watches,” he shares. “There is genuine craft in a Bastion, and they look beautiful.”

The decision to go with the Superleggera model came down to purpose. It wasn’t about chasing ultimate stiffness or watts. “I wasn’t so concerned about stiffness and wanted to save some weight,” he says with a grin. For him, it was about balance — performance meeting artistry.

A Study in Contrast
When it came to finishing, the bike had to speak in U-Shaun’s own visual language. Green has always been his favorite color, but he wanted something that allowed the Bastion’s carbon weave to shine through. The result? A clear green lacquer that reveals every line of the material beneath.

“It’s really difficult to get titanium to a mirror polish,” he explains. “The combination was to achieve as high a contrast as possible — between bright, high-polished titanium and matte-finished green carbon tubes — this way, both stand out.”

Personality in the Details
It’s not just the frame that tells a story. Look closely at the dropouts, and you’ll find two engraved names — his cats. One angelic, the other “chaos incarnate.” In true U-Shaun fashion, each name is accompanied by a matching symbol: an angel’s halo and a pair of devil horns. “That’s just me being whimsical,” he admits, laughing.

The Perfect Build
Originally, U-Shaun had planned to fit the bike with Shimano Dura-Ace, but sometimes, aesthetics have the final say. When the frame arrived, the polished lugs paired perfectly with SRAM’s new Red AXS. “Purely aesthetic,” he admits. “The high-polished lugs went so much better with the new SRAM Red.”

With the fit handled by ChoonWei (Fitskuul) — someone he trusts completely — U-Shaun could focus purely on the visual composition. From the bottle cages to the bar tape, every detail was chosen with the same eye for design and balance that defines the rest of the build.

The Ride That Stands Apart
When asked what part of the bike he loves most, U-Shaun did not hesitate: “The frame. The rest I’ve seen on so many other bikes — but the frame is unique and exactly the way I want it.”

And how does it ride? In a word: superb. U-Shaun owns bikes from most of the major brands, but there’s something about the Bastion that keeps calling him back. “It’s the one I always reach for,” he says.

His Advice to Others
For those contemplating a Bastion of their own, U-Shaun keeps it simple — “In the words of Nike: Just do it!” Weight, he insists, should not be a concern. “Don’t worry about it being a little heavier than a full-carbon world-tour bike. You’ll find yourself riding more and loving every minute, even on climbs.”

U-Shaun’s Bastion Superleggera is more than a bicycle — it’s a reflection of taste, craftsmanship, and the joy of owning something truly personal. Every polished surface, every engraved detail tells a story — one that begins and ends with a love of the ride.
